We Are the Children
We are the children
falling from grace of sunlight
until cold and dark
deepening into the earth
seep’d into our skins
all winter; hard, damp dirt
our seeds crack just then
we began
clawing mud, ice, and death
to reclaim the spring
once again
We are the children
