Watching Tennis

Watching tennis is a treat
When those who are elite compete
With lunges, leaps and smashing serves
That rise above mere mortals' nerves.

Such slicing shots, such smashing drops,
Near-misses when the heart just stops;
They race around the court so fast
As if each point might be the last.

We sit at home, on couch or chair
And catch the action on the air.
To me, no sport is quite as sweet
As watching tennis pros compete.

I never miss Wimbledon, or the U.S. Open for that matter. I played around when I was younger, but never really took it seriously. I loved McEnroe's antics almost as much as his tennis skills. It seems to be between Jokovic (Sp) and Federer for the men, and of course Serena is just so far ahed of the rest. I have a sports channel where I can reach other tournaments too. I'm constantly amazed by their skills and dexterity. BRAVO once more! Keith

I love this lovely poem, Ilene, and I love tennis, too. As Robert, said, I can't stand the grunting!! Why does a pretty lady like Sharapova have to ruin her image that way:) // paul

Never had the least interest in this sport! What is the point of the game? The only sports I enjoy are figure skating, gymnastics, and diving. Thank you, Ilene, was reading my take on bubble gum. Take care / M
