Wants To Know
I held her as she wept
my dearest friend
afraid of disease more than discovery
yet unable
to let his man go
that she loves so much
talking huge chances he comes to her
home
when her husband is gone
many times they sit on the porch
and smoke
and talk
she puts a bench across the stair bottom
in case the young ones come down
yet she cannot stay away
and is now convinced she will pay
with disease
and she weeps
we get in my car and go to the doctor
she cannot stop crying
crying
so I tell her story
and we get some attention
medication
she will hide
from her husband
blood tests
she will not quit
she just wants to know
