Want
I want to sleep,
But I cannot.
This airless room
Smothers all thought.
I feel my brain
Begin to rot.
I want to sleep,
But I cannot.
I want to run,
But they said no.
And if I did,
Where would I go?
I do not think
I’ll ever know.
I want to run,
But they said no.
I want to rip
This mask away,
But what would all
The people say?
I think I would
A fortune pay.
I want to rip
This mask away.
I want to scream,
But why should I?
There are no ears
To hear, nearby.
I cannot live.
I cannot die.
I want to scream,
But why should I?
I want to sing
A wordless song,
And with it right
All the world’s wrong.
Though I am small
And they are strong,
I want to sing
A wordless song.
I want to soar
Away with you
‘Round clouds of white,
‘Mid seas of blue.
Though wings I lack
And freedom, too,
I want to soar
Away with you.
