Dance

Waltz Until Moonrise

With charming words you behest
the imps of fairytale lore
to decorate my hope chest
with golden laughter galore.

You hold me close as we dance cheek to cheek,
the fae in the band give music a tweak,
we waltz until moonrise, salsa til dawn,
and wonder-struck at how fast time has gone.

Then in the distance storm clouds are coming,
you laugh and embrace the cold wind
blowing in and chumming~
evil is twinned…
hell!

Chetta, this is a stunning piece of dark fantasy! You built such a beautiful, whimsical world in the first two stanzas—I could practically hear the 'fae in the band.' But that transition to the storm clouds and the 'cold wind' was chilling. That final line, 'evil is twinned...hell!', is such a punchy, dark exclamation point. Truly a memorable waltz!

I didn’t know if I should use the last word, but it worked.
