Walking Distance

In walking distance from my house Are restaurants a’plenty. In just a 5 block radius, There must be more than 20. There also are a lot of stores – For food or drugs or liquor And also several hospitals (Though cabs get you there quicker). In walking distance, there is art – Just choose a cool museum And Google the exhibits now Then stroll on by to see ‘em. You need an outfit, socks or shoes? A book of stamps? Some flowers? No matter what, it can be bought – Just double-check the hours. A city life has lots of noise But anyone you talk to Will tell you that it’s wonderful To have so much to walk to.

I have been to the city and it is a lovely place for me to visit, but give me the silence of the country where we can hear the crickets and the bullfrogs and watch the stars not move.

I'm in a very well-acclimated part of town, myself, Ilene. Restaurants, grocery stores, drug stores, banks, etc. are all within walking distance of my apartment complex. As much as I love my car, I'm looking forward to the day when I no longer need her.

And that’s exactly where everything should be - walking distance. I have to drive for literally everything (10 miles to shops). Needing a stamp for a letter can be a longer drive than the address to which the letter is going… Duh!

In contrast, Milton realises what he thought he needed wasn't worth starting his car, so he saves money (but loses the exercise). Keep walking! Well thought out poem, Ilene! Aloha!

Oh, I do envy you that convenience, Ilene. Anytime I need anything at all, it means getting in the car and driving to a store. Of course, I can walk only about two blocks without sitting down and resting my hips and knees. Do your stores home deliver???? And, no, I couldn't afford a New York apartment.
