Walk Don't Run
Exploding with energy.
Shot from the bed.
Sliding down hallways,
Rushing to get ahead.
Zipping through breakfast,
Throwing sheets to the top of the bed.
Running full tilt to the...
Ut Oh!
Momma stood in my way.
She said, " Walk! Don't run!
Walk slowly as you go out the door,
Else you'll end up on the floor!"
My engine began to jitter and shake.
About to explode,
As I walked slowly to the door.
Momma Said, "See, I knew you could do it!
Now continue on slowly,
For the rest of the day.
Just get out the door,
To freedom once more.
My energy level is in the red.
Must use some up,
Before I am dead.
School was a bust,
No one to trust.
All I heard all day was.
"Stop, don't run!"
That was no fun!
Couldn't wait for the end of day.
A three mile walk home,
All alone.
Took the breaks off,
Ran all the way.
When I burst through the door,
At the end of the day.
What did Momma say?
Momma smiled," I heard you whistling,
Three miles away.
Knew you were on your way.
Now stop for a moment,
And tell me true.
Did you walk some today?"
I couldn't lie.
"I did walk some today."
Just didn't say,
It was every time a teacher said, " Walk! Don't run!"
That I took a step or two.
