Visiting Hours Are Over Ii

Remember all the lovely words;
The ones I spoke with ease?
They’ve left me now, like south-bound birds;
My fevered mind found peace.

That jubilee, you hoped to see,
The happy circus show,
Packed up the tent, washed off their paint;
Exposed, they had to go.

The elephant, he charged the tent;
The crowd went wild with rage;
But all the while, you sat and smiled;
You knew I’d break the cage.

They’ve laid me here, alone inside,
This wretched box of pine;
For I have kissed sweet suicide
No longer is life mine.

Time marches on, as well we know;
It stops for not a man.
But if I could, I’d break the glass;
I would, and start again.
