Visiting
In my hometown driving around, a surreal haze descends
Almost a year away and I can barely find me
Treasures kept are hard to find and fit
Foundations of yesterday are broken branches strewn
Everything seems to have disappeared from here
I changed my life and it’s like this just quit
I let countryside roll past my windows to clear the settled fog
See my old homes have become just a house of faded light
Memories go round and round. A kaleidoscope
Endings of ages ago that are what made me
I’m a visitor on foreign soil breezing by on my way home
Navigating my emotions is like being on a tightrope
Someone taps my shoulder. A vision of days past
A brief pull of sadness for all those days and winding paths
But some ideals are best left in the alley alone in the dark
I’ve planted new trees whose branches now surround me
Sign posts heading to new routes as I say good-bye
But it is lovely to see you. Among the echoes you left your mark
