Vision of a Space Explorer

I pressed my face against the thick pane of glass And stared out into the black of nearest space Where my planet-home Earth hung suspended Like a special well-worn ornament on a spruce tree Decorated with multi-colored bulbs and angel hair Earth swirling inside webs of gray cloud shrouding So peacefully, it appeared, she drifted silent there While I saw visions of peoples struggling to be free Knowing on us so much of their future depended Adventuring to the unknown, and finding a place Where Earth’s inhabitants might egress en masse.

This went straight to my FAVE list; I cannot tell you all the things I love about it. There is not room here.

Isaac Asimov and Ray Bradbury would drink to your theme... Then again, they wrote of hyperspace. We still are in the conceptual stage on that -- 70+ years later. Oh, well... ~ Grounded

Yeah, I'm pretty much a ground person myself, gw. But, considering what has taken place in my lifetime, who knows what the next 50-75 years will bring. Thanks for your comment.

I agree with Tom. It fascinates me but I fear venturing there. I envision some mishap in which I'd never be able to return. Your description of Earth as seen from space is exactly the way I'd envision it.

Thanks for your thoughtful comment, Jenna. I can't explain this poem at all. It just came to me, and I jotted it down, rather hurriedly. I did some quick corrections. I think it works, and the idea is startling...thought-provoking at least.

Space facinates me Milton and I enjoyed your vision and one day man will venture beyond our galaxy like the pioneers of old. First they must develop better propulsion like warp speed in star trek, even now they're building hypersonic missiles for warheads that could be better used for the good of mankind rather than destroying him. Oh, I certainly agree with everything you said, Tom. I don't know why we persist in developing war materials at the expense of better uses for the good of humanity.
