Veterans Are People

VETERANS ARE PEOPLE

I fought in the trenches of World War I
In the foxholes of World War II
I was in the Korean Conflict
And the rice paddies of Vietnam too

I've been to Afghanistan
Kuwait and Iraq
Spent long months away from home
I've been to hell and back

But the stars and stripes will forever wave
In honor of those who went to their grave
To ensure that America will always be
The home of the brave and the land of the free

The bells of freedom will continue to ring
All across the USA
And it can be said, without a doubt
Our veterans paved the way

Absolutely, but my version would say that veterans are heroes. Congrats on your win, Curtis.

Yes, we Veterans could be considered heroes in a manner of speaking. Whatever connotation we apply, I am pleased to be a Veteran and to pay homage to all our Vets. My book has a section dedicated to Veterans and I can tell that your heart is for us as well. Thanks, Line.

Congratulations on your win with this heartfelt tribute! Thank you for your service. An inspirational poem that needs to be read in these times. Respect for so many things seems to have disappeared over the years. Well done.

Thank you, Susan for these kind words. Veterans have a special place in my heart. After retiring from the Air Force, I worked for 23 years at the VA Medical Center here in my hometown of Dublin, Georgia.

Thank you for your service and your comment. My 20-year Air Force career was the second best decision I ever made. The first was accepting Christ as Lord and Savior. Both decisions have served me well.

Thank you, Tom. Our military, as well as all first responders and lawa officers, need to be treated with respect and dignity. I appreciate your support.

And yes, you helped to pave the way!! Always an honor to read a patriotic poem authored by a true Veteran, Curtis. I know i am putting you on the spot BUT could you write an entry regarding a day in your life as a soldier (WW2) for Frank's contest. I would be excited to read such work from you! ....I know, you are thinkin'-Boy, she is soooo demanding. ha ha. Gwendolen

Gwendolen: I am truly flattered that you would ask me to write for Frank's contest. In the meantime, if you look at my poems, you will see one entitled "The Disabled Vet". Read it and let me know if it may be appro-priate.
