Verdant Pastures

Horses in battle with valor showed
In ancient times when conflicts rose
 On mighty steeds warriors rode
Swords at the ready to vanquish foes

Modern battles by machines are run
Which allowed the equines to have more fun
 Running wild running free
 Enjoying a new destiny

 In verdant pastures horses roam
 Grazing under azure skies
 Spending days in serenity's home
Having toiled to earn this prize

What a lovely tribute Joseph....they have certainly earned a life of peace, so many are abused. And so tonight when I feed "Baloo" I will give him an extra long pat from you! Beautiful poem..thank you

Very nice poem in 'Verdant Pastures'. Horses have gone where no machine would dare. New York City's '10-foot cops' still uses 50+ horses to patrol the parks and places cruisers can't go. Good luck. -Richard

I Love horses Joseph - my two poem Tony the Pony and 10 Downing Street are about horses - such regal animals - sad that in years gone by they were killed in battle often together with their rider. Blessing Joseph, Jennifer

This is beautiful Joseph. I am filled with gratitude that wars are no longer fought with horses being in the heat of danger. You have eloquently penned a beauty that is going into my Faves. I hope it gets a deserving top placement! xxoo

They certainly played their part in wars gone by. A charging cavalry would put the fear of god into foot soldiers. You're right, they've earned their rest. Tom
