Notes About The Poem

Author’s Notes:  "Valentine's Unicorn" is a special rhymed couplet that I've written which touches on the fantasy legend of the mystical Unicorn and the ethereal ideal she presents to all of us who cherish harmony, peace, and love always.  I thought that this would be a great theme to present as part of the shared loved that most of us feel or at least strive for on Valentine's Day.  And, I'm dedicating this special poem to my wife Ingrid who just happens to love Unicorns as I do.  (Gary Bateman - February 9, 2015) (Rhymed Couplet)

Valentine's Unicorn

Valentine’s Unicorn

A magical and most wonderful creature of times old,
With a holy soul filled with love and a heart of gold.

Harmony, peace, and love pervade her very essence,
And they define all that is good and grand in her presence.

She loves poets, musicians, and all of us who so often dream,
And visits us all in ethereal visions on a radiant light beam.

This Valentine’s Unicorn is a precious bearer of purest love,
Who possesses angelic power from the very Heavens above.

She lives in our hearts and souls as an enchanted dream,
And shares her love and trust with us all as we dream.

She shares our dreams past, present, and future—
And shall always be a spirit of majestic love in our future.

On Valentine’s Day her love is felt on Earth and in Heaven above,
As she sends us harmony, peace, and love on the wings of a dove!

ML, The "Unicorn" was actually her idea. I managed to put the words to it. I too liked how this one turned out. Ingrid and I will be doing more co-writes in the future. I have some we've done but not yet posted because of my book edit, etc. Best Wishes Always, Gary

Hello Choene!! Thanks for your read here and your note. I'm pretty much a multi-thematic writer and try to write all types of poetry. (I have much yet to learn!!) Be that as it may, like you, I tend to prefer rhymed writes and rhymed and metered writes. The flow of words with rhyme and meter and metaphor is truly magical!! This really makes poetry glorious!! Best Always, Gary

Liam Mate!! Thanks so much for your visit and read. I'm glad you liked it. (We should consider a co-write in the future where a Leprechaun meets or comes face-to-face with a Unicorn. This might be a interesting theme full of possibilities.) Cheers, Gary

Anne-Lise, Thanks!! for your read and most wonderful comments here. This one is indeed quite special -- and the idea for it actually came from Ingrid. I knew that Unicorns are special for her (and now me too), and I wanted to write a Unicorn theme for her for Valentine's Day. Hello D! Thanks for your wonderful note and comments here!! And for the Super Seven Rating!! The "Unicorn" theme is always quite magical and very interesting to write about. I decided yesterday to do one more Valentine's poem for Ingrid before dropping off-line with "PS" for the new few weeks. Glad I did. I was very pleased with how this Couplet turned out. (I had considered doing a Sonnet, but think I made the better choice with the Couplet format.) Continued best wishes from Ingrid and me to you "D"!! Gary XO!!
