Use Your Loaf

Come on now use your loaf
I’ll bake some bread for your toast
Flour, yeast, water and salt
Four ingredients for its growth

A chemical reaction is what I need
So I knead the dough so carefully
Squish and roll, squish and fold
This process you know is well evolved

I need to release that protein
The gluten in the flour
Creating pockets of carbon dioxide
So my dough rises higher

I’ll leave it in a warm room
Until fermenting takes place
Maybe for two or three hours
I don’t want it to be a disgrace

Now it’s risen twice the size
That just really blows my mind
I’ll pop it in a pre-heated oven
Forty five minutes, I will govern

A fresh loaf there’s nothing like it
Warm beauty on display
So come on now use your loaf
Let’s bake some bread today

I used to love making bread for my dad every week when I was quite young - learned at school - they simply dont have time to teach baking pastry making these days - all comes pre prepared - I used to love making pastry - a lost skill these days:-( Hugs Jan xx
