Up Then Down
We dreamed the dream and against all odds
It came out true
To reach the heights we soared to
We clawed ferociously
At any obstruction
And trampled the weak who
Slowed us down
We were one sighted and mean
We had no patience
Our aim to rule an empire
Could never be
Deviated from
Our destiny was created
Fed
And maintained
Only by us
The world was our mirror
We had no self- image worries
Karma of course called
The old adage of what goes around comes around
Boomeranged on us and savagely humbled us
Not on our knees but face down
We will of course never admit defeat willingly
Nor expect to be down for long
Arrogance can never be in short supply
For our work has not yet been done
The brute force of the rejection of our master plan
By all and sundry
Masquerading as bad luck
Has made us bitter
We are without wings and means
But we vehemently plot revenge
A vicious cycle we have initiated
We have no one to blame
We likened ourselves to gods on earth
Who can do no wrong
In our own eyes
We find no sympathy
Our allies have been reformed as
Enemies who are no longer forced to comply
With our all-consuming wishes
We have no friends
And never had it seems
Our disdain and scalding apathy
Sterilised our environment
We could not see nor tell
What monsters we were
We created fear
And hunger for a revolution
That has now brought us to our knees
