Unpacking the Compact, 7 Principles For Success

Of the reality of God, they were convinced. In fact, He was their first line of defense. Principle #1: In the name of God, Amen. They were undoubtedly good and decent people. Men, women, children; some of them were pilgrims. Principle #2: by the grace of God. They were not seeking a new king nor a new government. They were in search of a new world, a new and better way. Principle #3: for the glory of God. I suspect they were among the best people from the old country. Yet, they knew and understood human nature and its many frailties. Principle #4: advancement of the Christian faith. They fully realized that they needed more than governance from afar. They needed a covenant, a tool of guidance to follow and be committed to. Principle #5:in the presence of God. They knew that without such, there would be civil strife and certain mutiny if not self-destruction. Thus was born aboard the ship The Mayflower Compact. Principle #6:covenant and combine our selves together into a civil body politic. For me, it is refreshing and reassuring that when I started 'unpacking' the Mayflower Compact, seven phrases stood out to me, demonstrating the foundation on which their intent and plan were laid. Principle #7: for the general good of the Colony. I believe that these principles are the chief reason for their success and that if we, their descendants, abandon such principles, we will be the worst for it and will likely fail as a nation. 061820PS
