Notes About The Poem

My cousin Diana worked for a large firm that produced many magazines. I said "Why does my turkey never look as terrific as the ones on the covers at Thanksgiving time?" She said, "This is our secret. We have painters come in and paint RAW turkeys, until they look terrific. They are not even cooked. RAW." What?

I had no idea they were raw painted turkeys, but now I understand why mine never look like these covers.

My husband and I always laugh that the only person we recognize on a magazine cover is Oprah. Luckily she puts herself on the cover every month.
