Uninvited Solitude

Uninvited Solitude

Trying to embrace a shadow
With fleeting fragments of reality
Tattered remnants of remembering
Float in swirling enchantment of mirages.

Daydreams drum in midnight shades
With illusions etched upon the soul
Wraiths of innocence overwhelming
Dewdrops of grief descending.

Arms remember holding magic –
Gathering wind spells – chasing stardust –
Whispers tiptoe past fading rainbows
Cold quiet stills the laughter.

Fantasies dance with déjà vu
Just beyond the specter of dawn
Leave their footprints of impressions –
Overwhelming the shadows.

Fireworks of flashbacks flame then disappear
Figments tripping over apparitions
Pushing back on spilled chimera -
Uninvited solitude.

Arms remember holding magic –
Gathering wind spells – chasing stardust –
Whispers tiptoe past fading rainbows
 Cold quiet stills the laughter.

Sam, what a magnificent depiction!... So many parts I love in your poem. I have to abbreviate, as must run. Dewdrops, dance with de ja vu, whispers tip toe past fading rainbows. Excellent phrases. Knitted into a rich tapestry of lament, most tantalisingly constructed. Congratulations on deserved Win, Sam!!

Hi Sigrid. Thank you for your congratulations and for your lovely compliments. They mean a lot to me! It is so sad to watch a dream die - we grieve. But, on the other side of that coin, we can dream new dreams. Hope you are doing well. hugs and prayers my friend!

Not all solitude is comforting. The pain-filled memories creep into the quiet moments uninvited. "Tattered remnants of remembering", one of many sorrowful, poignant phrases from your empathetic pen, Sam. Also appreciated the glimmer of hope in "Fireworks of flashbacks flame then disappear", knowing that moments of peace will return. Heartfelt honesty.

Healing and grieving is such a process. You are so right when you say not all solitude is comforting. But, there is hope as we process - always with God's grace and beneath God's amazing wings - sometimes we have to sit in the dugout for rain delays! Blessings my friend!
