I woke up that day with tears in my eyes, after I heard about your father's demise. Guess you've never understood, the point of being his blood. I remember when your mother left, how he was totally bereft. Ran off with the man next door, not once did he call her a whore. Not once did your mother call, too busy having a ball. Forgot about her only child, to live a life fun and wild. He knew he had to be strong, so the world would do you no wrong. Every night he held you tight, his eyes your guiding light. Every time you would cry, he would kiss those tears dry. Worked three jobs so you had the best, not once did he fail in your request. He suppressed all his sorrows deep inside, he was broken but never did he subside. Single he remained for the rest of his life, dedicated to you, so you would not face strife. Yet you too, decided to walk away, tell me what led you astray? You called him a religious bore, when you ran out of that door. He had your best interests at heart, but you belittled him for not being smart. Then you wonder why he finally broke, all that stress gave him a deadly stroke. Now you stand there with your unfaithful mother, with someone who is young enough to be your brother. Crocodile tears stream from your artificial face, as his coffin is lowered into his final resting place. How ironic it has started to pour with rain, maybe it's God washing away all of his pain. Don't come running to me for sympathy, I have no time for those with no dignity. All his sacrifices now you seem to realise, but he can't hear you, it's too late to apologise. Because of you he lived a life heartbroken, forever you will regret those words unspoken. P.S If you think his inheritance will help your austerity, he wasn't that stupid, he left it all to charity! The Silent One 16 February 2018 Based on a true story

Man, oh man ... what a slam! I really dig this slash-n-sass flow, SO. You are one heavy hitter Truth ballplaya. Love the grit and the wit. Cool breeze poetry is always refreshing to a parched muse soul. Love and joy forever.

Such a strong self-sacrificing father even in the midst of all the pain. If only the child had realized it. You are a great story-teller. This was captivating.

Life is not fair and this world is truly dark my friend-thus the truth in the old saying, "no good deed goes unpunished". I lived some of what that man did, yet , my daughter that I did that for thankfully has never abandoned me. She often tells me of her appreciation. A truly tremendous poem -one that will stand the test of time! A fav..

Oh it s really beautiful, the fact that it s based on a true story made it even more touching, yeah you re right, the father could have remarried, left her like her mother did, could have fulfill his own desires but he choose to raise her and it s so sad that she realize it when it was all gone wellmy grandfather did the same thing, he left my father and my grandmother when my father was two and came back after 16 years and there in England he remarried, so my grandmother riased my father alone

This is truly an amazing piece, my friend and excellently told! Unfortunately, I know of many similar stories about ungrateful children. But our hero did the right thing in the end because he gave her "zero" which is exactly what she deserved! BRAVO! Hugs and best wishes. Pandita

Such heartbreaking circumstances for this dedicated man to have been abandoned twice in life by the two people who should have loved him most. Your emotions of anger are scathingly expressed but so are your warm feelings of admiration, love and respect of this man, your friend and maybe father figure.. A beautiful poem from your heart, Silent One - I'm so sorry for your loss. Warmest wishes. ~Susan

Silent One, a deep pane one feels for this gentleman. To loose both of the people who are most important in your life through mere selfishness.

Alas...we made a "civilised" society but still wondering why we stayed savages everyday of our life. Mistake are made but rarely are they repaired. A heartbreaking story my friend. I'm not sympa with the victim but with the victimisers who would suffer for rest of their lives. Well penned. :)

A sad narrative on the deplorable way we people treat the ones who loved us unconditionally. Great truths and embarrassment for our species.

Thank you Laura, the sad reality is that it happens so much and when I see them crying, I think to myself, why are you crying now.. its wrong and we all make mistakes, but this guy was treated so bad, I did not include all the details...
