Unfortunate Distance
You start to distance yourself from your friends.
Say it's all you, not even them.
They wouldn't understand and
it's be so much easier for them to mend.
When you're six feet under,
your love you'd send.
It would hurt them less if you'd never met,
but the good times you can't regret.
They were nice while they lasted
but now you're trapped in.
You can't leave them here,
you're in too deep.
So faking a smile and holding it in you'll keep.
It'd be so much easier to just go away
but only for them you're forced to stay.
No one understands how you feel inside.
Behind the walls barriers lies
a girl who's in pain and really confused.
Whose heart has been broken and battered and bruised.
But you keep up the charade
and hope in the love and compassion, you'll be paid.
Go on and give growing up a chance
then it's okay if "sorry" is all you said.
Sorry you couldn't make it.
Sorry you couldn't fake it.
Sorry you couldn't help but break it.
It was nice while it lasted,
how you're looking down to cry.
Hide the tears from their eyes.
They can't know you're hurting
behind the smiles,
but at least you made seventeen worthwhile.
