Underneath the Surface

Certain feelings may be better If they're left inside. Public airings don't allow Emotions room to hide. People may peruse my poems And think they know me well But underneath the surface Sometimes hidden demons dwell. The day is bright and sunny And no aches or pains abound Yet instead of being lifted up, I'm rooted to the ground.

You hit a nerve here, dear Ilene. Until now you've force me to see your work differently. I o my best to camouflage personal matters, not at all fond of overt confessional poetry, except Emily Dickinson and a few others. Like Jan, I make laughter than pity. / M

Ilene, This poem saddens me. I wish there were something to do or say to chain those demons. I know them all too well. God bless, Dean

So true ilene, we all try and wear that happy mask that's seen by others. But we all have a darkness within. Tom

"Certain feelings may be better If they're left inside." I often wonder why every single feeling needs to be shouted from the rooftops, and why?

The only person who knows what is going on in our lives is us Ilene, but we can mask anything in our world by writing and we both usually write witty poems to make other people smile and forget our own troubles for a while:-) hugs Jan xx

Nicely put. A truism for those who can maintain that separation. (I sure can't. How I feel is how I write)… Bottom line: Good for you!! Best wishes, gw

It's probably best that way. Once again, perfect flow and rhymes my friend.
