Sometimes we set our hopes too high -
believe in love, when loves a lie
wish for dreams too far from reach
Ignore the lessons we try to preach
We jump right in-despite scars from the past
break one more time-knowing it won't be our last
we lose our identities one by one
as we strive to be what we never become
We're not given choices we're told who to be
Before they see character they see what they see
Were judged for our skin, here, appearance is gold
where the beauty in a face beats the beauty in a soul
Still we're expected to be better than that
believe "sticks n stones" n all that crap
Don't judge the cover-great standards by far
when it's those very vanities that define who we are
If only it mattered
what we learn rarely does
not how our clothes fit
but how our hearts love
