Unchained
Unchained the dogs so they can howl
At the bloodstained slice of moon,
And in their lupine melodies
Off-key and out of tune,
Accompany all my tragedies
Until the angels swoon.
Unchained the grime and ecstasy,
Butt-raped the torrid sky,
And with wild desolation tear
Dark melancholic eye,
Until the socket black and bare
Was never more to cry.
Unchained my claim to misery
So it could stake me down
And be my one and only friend,
My self-indulgent thorny crown,
A role as such I might pretend
Or don a maggot bridal gown.
Unchained once more the memories
Of nothing to behold,
Whatever did I think about,
A winter kiss, a summer cold,
A cup of faith, a grail of doubt,
The dreams I bought and sold.
