Unbalanced Lunches

     An unfortunate habit
       so many have formed

     Eating three meals a day
       since the year they were born… 

     A slice of bread dipped in salt
       morn and eve was enough 

     For laborers to subsist on
       when civilization was tough…

     Today we complain about ‘unbalanced lunches’
       ~ though Huns at the doorstep rarely pull punches

Bj Legros Kelley Date: 3/6/2025 4:18:00 AM Peanut butter and homemade pear jelly, and a pear for dessert in our lunchboxes every SINGLE day when I was in elementary school. My brother had it the worst though, he was the one who worked in the pear orchard, he said he about turned green when he opened his lunch! We actually, all five of my siblings, as well as my dad, could not stand the sight of a pear the rest of our lives! But it was economical! Ny mom knew how to save money, we didn't starve, but sometimes we'd almost rather, lol! Login to Reply

A thick egg salad sandwich, chips, and Gatorade sure hit the spot.on a hot summer day. Now that I'm retired and elderly, a cold strawberry water on a summer's day on the patio reminds me of my younger days. Another good poem, friend. Am Yisrael Chai!
