Unbalanced Lunches

An unfortunate habit so many have formed Eating three meals a day since the year they were born… A slice of bread dipped in salt morn and eve was enough For laborers to subsist on when civilization was tough… Today we complain about ‘unbalanced lunches’ ~ though Huns at the doorstep rarely pull punches

A little more than bread and salt, please. Perhaps a jab of ozempic , so we can stuff a little. I enjoy this poem. May you get an Easter basket full of chocolate rabbits (or chocolate gold coins, I like the coins as well).

A great poem my friend. We sure didn't have premade TV Dinners and frozen food to put in the microwave when we were too tired to cook.(for that matter, no microwave to cook with even if we did)

All great comments! I remember bologna sandwiches which my brother and wife also served as we traveled together. Not spoiled…also would eat liverwurst. My mom used powdered milk, Carnation - was not a fan.

I grew up in a poor dysfunctional family with an alcoholic for a father. I remember those foodless days very well. Now, we complain about things that are not relevant to the rest of the world. Good one.

There was no McDonalds back in my day, I see that has a blessing.

Peanut butter and homemade pear jelly, and a pear for dessert in our lunchboxes every SINGLE day when I was in elementary school. My brother had it the worst though, he was the one who worked in the pear orchard, he said he about turned green when he opened his lunch! We actually, all five of my siblings, as well as my dad, could not stand the sight of a pear the rest of our lives! But it was economical! Ny mom knew how to save money, we didn't starve, but sometimes we'd almost rather, lol!

Hi Gershon, when I was doing blue collar jobs I sure appreciated lunchtime, lol! A thick egg salad sandwich, chips, and Gatorade sure hit the spot.on a hot summer day. Now that I'm retired and elderly, a cold strawberry water on a summer's day on the patio reminds me of my younger days. Another good poem, friend. Am Yisrael Chai!

Hi Gershon, sometimes I'd alternate the egg salad sandwiches with tuna salad on some days, or a pumpernickel bagel also packed thick NY style with cream cheese, lol! Shalom my friend. :)

Nothing like lunch break when doing physical work. Did you eat egg salad every day? I had a pb&j sw every day for 37 years. Lol.
