Listen to poem:
Who are the ugly people? I cannot really see Your nose is a tad wonky But seems perfectly shaped to me Who are the ugly people? Perhaps the way you stroll Is not quite catwalk ready But you have ambulatory soul Who are the ugly people? Your hair it whisps and flies And yet I see the beauty Hidden there behind your eyes Who are the ugly people? If you stutter when you talk I just hear words of kindness Though the world may call you dork Who are the ugly people? Not the poets or the painters It's the socials and the media Determined they should taint us Who are the ugly people? Not the ones who try their best But the judgement laden critics Or the ones who just detest Who are the ugly people? Those who preen, pout or pretend? For ugly is a choice we make From inside, in the end 14th October 2023

What a truly wonderful poem Christopher. I listened to it first - you recited it so well. A great voice - very fluent, lovely and sincere! Impressed! The writing itself - beautifully written and expressed in every line. So thought provoking and profound. Love the last two lines in particular. So heartening throughout.Really enjoyed your reading. Thank you for sharing. Have a great weekend :) :)

a beautiful and uplifting poem, Christopher. I identify with your words about the so-called 'ugly people.' Who decided what's ugly and isn't? You nailed what true beauty is, a kind and beautiful soul...one who is caught up in pettiness. Well said...faving this one, Sara

Bless you Sara :) "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" often makes me think that - we don't just percieve the beauty we see - but that our own beauty resonates with the beauty of others. In other words beauty inhabits us first and there is a deep kindred connection as we see how God sees. I could go on - but so appreciate you Sara. Blessings :) Namaste.

You’ve read this poem very well and is very well written too, at the end of the day ugly is a choice we make deep inside! How true is that! I always find ones with a kind soul and heart one that speaks no evil but speaks words of love, beautiful! Beauty of your heart reflects on your face too. But social media and society has their pre assigned values on beauty, based on judgemental mindset. Unfortunately so many get influenced and so many are left feeling unworthy!we are all God’s children.

We do need to guard our hearts more than ever nowadays and yes, God sees through the external.. I even believe he is inside looking out, so it is the very last thing he considers important. Lovely comments, Ink, you do my heart good.

Dear Christopher, the beauty of kindness, acceptance and empathy shines through your lovely rhyme. I admire where your poem starts and I adore where it ends. Your last two stanzas bring your poem to a grand and impactful finale. A thoughtful and thought-provoking piece. Warmest wishes.. ~Susan
