Two Lenses

Gray naked trees, forest lawn cloaked in white
Wearing red, bearing arms, hiding motionless and pious
Appearing out of nowhere, an apparition so quiet
One shot rang out, then suddenly dead silence

Nearly half a century, has passed since that year
A revelation came to me, lucidly clear
So beautiful and graceful, yet to live in fear
A life resolving murder, of a helpless deer

Yes it does. Like you say, as we are aging, we really come face to face with the fragility of life and it's meaning. Thank you for your comments and thank you for letting me be a part of your contest. Peace my friend:)

Congratulations on your win with this interesting entry! I'm looking at 3 in my front yard right now. I've never been deer hunting but must say I do like to eat deer meat. :)

After heart surgery I became a vegetarian but I understand. I had to make a choice meat or cigarettes. I'm still smoking. Thank you for the lovely flowers. I always enjoy our visits. Peace my dear:)

I thought this poem the best of the lot for now - and were it my contest, I'd pick you the winner. This said so much in so little - and mad such a point - my brother in Wisconsin could be the one writing this poem...pretty impactful....just a great piece!

Thank you for your kind comments. Unfortunately, I doubt it will be a winner. I quit deer hunting at age 16. At the time, My dad couldn't understand and really gave me a hard time, but I stuck with my heart. I understand why people do it. It's just not for me. Thank you again and Peace:)

You've a knack for these enigmatic, vivid writes, Daniel! Enjoyed this one...

Thank you Michael. I don't actually intend to be so mysterious, it just sort of happens. I do appreciate the fact that you spent your time to read and felt the need to comment. Maybe enigmatic is not so bad:) Peace and God Bless

Wow. I love this piece. Very tight and melodic. Delightfully sparse, and rich with emotion. Nice work!
