Two Boys

"I will live forever" said the boy of eight
"If you do so will I" replied his mate
A pledge and a promise made right there
Between two boys without worries or care

One of the boys was smart at school
The other was slow and played the fool
Friends forever though is what they'd be
Cared for each other as you are about to see

The smart boy became a barrister of law
The slow boy was constantly shown the door
Two boys aged eight soon became men
With families saw each other now and again

Despite a good job and being super smart
This man was dying with an attack of the heart
His slow friend was with him when he died
Into a tissue the tears fell as he wept and cried
