Twilight Wings
We sat and watched
on a warm spring night,
beneath the trees—their silent flight.
They made their way
by and by,
silhouetted against the dusky sky.
They wheeled and fluttered
above our heads
as the stars awoke from their celestial beds.
They dipped and swooped
and made us shriek
with surprise, then we giggled in relief.
As the moon rose up
to light their way,
they flew on by, to greet their day.
