Turn Off the Lights
Let the Christmas carols play
solemn and prayerful just one more day.
The season's prep was all hype
and now the holiday slips quiet into night.
For weeks ahead the songs were sung
and in a single day seem easily undone.
Already the decorations hang and fall
packed away like the New Year's ball.
Take down the tree, the ornaments and cards
hold back the disappointed left over shards.
Turn off the lights, discard the holiday themes
box the figures from the manger scene,
leave only the blessed angelic message
joy, hope, love and peace the everlasting vestige.
