Tunnel
I enter the tunnel,
Not willing to turn back,
To be named a coward.
I walk through it slowly,
Not knowing what’s ahead,
Just knowing what’s behind.
The tunnel is near black,
Cold, empty and lifeless.
My breath is all I hear.
I can’t see the end.
It’s like it’s infinite,
My tread lasting decades.
Finally, I see it.
My journey is finished.
My prize is in my sight.
But all I see is white,
A blinding glare of it.
I can’t see what it is.
Well, I’ve spent all this time…
Might as well walk right in.
For the end can’t be worse.
As I walk through I see,
What have longed to receive
From my endless journey.
Not wealth nor power nor fame,
I have gained far, far, more.
