Trying to make sense of it all

I've been struggling with all the remembering;
Because I struggle to forget.
You say you didn't do anything;
I'm not sure I agree with that.

There was writing on the wall,
Until you punched through them all.
I didn't read those words,
Because I listened to you first.

I trusted in your love;
I trusted you'd be kind.
I trusted in all above,
That love is what I'd find.

I found tears,
And I found years and years afraid.
Then I found the strength to want more,
And to not believe in your masquerade.

You can say you love me,
But I know a simple truth.
You never would have hurt me,
If you loved me like I loved you.
