Trying to Make a Living
***Trying to Make a Living***
Everyone’s got a side hustle,
just trying to make a living.
Working too hard to grab a piece,
of what this ole world ain’t giving.
We’re just trying to make a dime,
hoping that we might get ahead.
Seems no matter how hard we try,
we fall farther behind instead.
We’re standing on the same ladder,
clawing and scratching til we drop.
Praying before we reach life’s end,
we might get a glimpse of the top.
We keep playing the best we can,
though our deck’s short a card or two.
In the end I’ll lay down my hand,
knowing I’ve done the best I could do.
