Trying To Be Myself

Nerd. Geek. Loser. No Good. Waste of Life.

Words that pierced my heart every day of my youth.
It was constant degrading from classmates and even family.
I couldn't go one day without someone telling me how bad I was when all I did was try to be myself.

I didn't drink, smoke or do drugs. Never had detention or got in trouble. Always got good grades. Was on the school newspaper, chess club, a teachers and library aid, and big sister program.

Because I didn't party, cause chaos or turn into a "normal" teen, I was an outcast who never fit in.
Its a shame that if your not in society's "clicks" you do not get accepted as a person.

Robin congrats on placing 9th in my contest. Loved your honesty and raw emotion! Sorry it took so long to judge..a hiccup in the space-time continuum.

We are all unique, but as an human, you can move to where the sun shines on you. A 12-year-old Ukrainian nerd has just discovered how drones can accurately identify the type of land mine and spray paint its location, saving thousands of lives and limbs - because he was thinking instead of playing games with others! Aloha!

To thine own, thine self, be true. It is all that you can do. Foot is in the other shoe? Treat as you wish they'd treat you. Sounds like you would be a friend Steady, loyal to the end. Cool kids oft make bad adults. Nerds, the opposite results.
