True Love

True love gives us eyes to see
That a divine truth surrounds,
Mystics and poets agree -
An open heart knows no bounds.

We are immersed in love’s bold narrative,
The soulmate quest a prime imperative,
And when the perfect one walks through the door
We pledge our lives and hearts forevermore.

Eternal love won’t last, so grieve what was,
We rarely see what makes us fall -
Open your eyes because
Love makes us all
Blind.

Yes love is blind and it makes us do things that we would never do. Enjoyed reading your poem.

A huge congratulations on your 1st place win! What I loved most about this piece was the subversion of the 'soulmate quest.' You took a classic romantic theme and gave it a philosophical weight that really resonated. The rhyme scheme was flawless, and that final drop—from 'Love makes us all' to 'Blind'—was the most impactful 'step' of the entire contest. Excellent craftsmanship!

I've been blinded by love, too, and my open heart has been boundless. I like the rhyme scheme here, too.
