True Fate

How much of fate is shaped for us at birth- how much is figured to be circumstance? A story now I share with you has worth to show life may not be a game of chance. Months old, she clung to books as her best toy, and while Mom read, she'd hyperventilate. Her baby arms would flutter with the joy of hearing words; for each new page, await. In time, at preschool, her big wish was made; when she grew up, a teacher she would be. All thru her grade and high school years relayed- to teach kids love of English, was her plea. Not only that, she hoped and prayed she'd be a teacher at the high school where she went. Four years at college earned her prized degree in Education, English- time well-spent- because within a few months after this, her home school district hired her to go teach at her high school; now she proudly sits head of a class where she sat years ago. How much of fate is shaped for us at birth; how much is figured to be circumstance? This story that I shared with you has worth in showing life is not a game of chance. Sandra M. She must have heard the same song I heard. That's what I came out of college and did, taught high school English. Funny thing is my daughter hears that song too. Somebody needs math. I'm sure. Enjoyed your selection and best wishes for the contest.

Yes, Sian, I knew you were an English teacher, and I am sure a very dedicated one too. My major was English, but I was not a teacher. Thank you for your uplifting comments! Hugs, Sandra

You are correct, Mrs Sandra. Life is not about chances. Life is about choices. English was one of my favorite subjects in school along with history. Go figure.(lol). A most enjoyable read and proof that choices not chances determine one's future.

Oh your granddaughter sounds completely wonderful in every way Sandra. You must be so proud and she so happy. I love your poem, it is beautifully expressed with your high standards of lovely rhythm and rhymes. I have thought about your last verse often in my own life. I love how you started and ended your poem with these compelling and intriguing poetic lines. Your granddaughter's path in life illustrates the truth of your last line perfectly.. Warmest wishes my friend. ~Susan

Thank you, Heidi, for your visit, reading my poem, and congrats to my granddaughter. She is very busy right now; don't think she will post on PS in the near future. She was president of her college's poetry club for two years before she graduated and now plans to start one in the high school where she teaches, plus is very involved with her city's historical society! A lot on her plate! Hugs, Sandra
