Troubled Soul

The autumn leaves frolic across the ground
A touch of winter is in the air
I sit here alone with all my thoughts
Dejected - wondering why I even care

Have I given up on modern man?
Is my truth reality?
The lack of hope, purpose, and meaning in life
It all seems to end so tragically

I’ve witnessed the breath last drew from life
Held a hand as time let go
Perhaps the passing on to another world
Is the only way to liberate our troubled soul?

I pray for peace, love, and kindness
All-the-while fighting the harsh words inside
I’m disappointed by what I’m feeling and seeing
The bitter truth – the empty lives

As the wind begins to fade away
The trees distant from the fallen leaves
This vision invokes a question
Will someone be there - to love and care for me?

The winter’s breath is now upon me
A dichotomy of emotions - swelling up inside
I pray and ask for forgiveness
As I’m enveloped by the dark solitude of night

Beautifully sad Kelly with a question I think many of us ponder at times ending up the great piece of writing. I can feel the sadness, the loneliness and the longing.
