Tripped On a Memory

Tripped On A Memory

That day the sun was shining
my heart was full and free.
I must have simply looked away
and tripped on a memory.

It was black as hell that night,
my tears they fell like rain.
How can it be a memory
can bring my heart such pain?

I tried my best to gain control,
my emotions running wild.
This memory, a part of me
from when I was a child.

Much too young to understand
and I can’t pay the cost.
The used to be what came of me
and the innocence I lost.

One moment on the mountain
where I can clearly see.
Next moment there’s that mountain
of a memory on me.

That day the sun was shining.
There’s no place I’d rather be.
Then I must have looked away
and tripped on a memory.

You have a way of brining the melancholy it a happy kind of way. That incongruity makes reading your work interesting.

As cathartic as writing I know can be, I hope some of the mountain's weight was lifted. Bless you dear poet. <3
