Tribute To Doctor Jean Peterson
I had quit the counseling program; I was no longer excited.
One year of graduate school was enough; I was done.
Then you telephoned me to see what had gone wrong.
I could not trust you; you were a voice on a phone.
You offered to drive an hour to where I was and take me to lunch.
I told you it would be a waste of time; you did not back down.
We met, and I was hard and inflexible at first.
But you wore me down and promised to help if I would return.
Thanks to your empathy and love, and your caring ways.
I have been a school counselor for twenty-six years.
A position that has brought me joy, love, and energy.
Thanks to your empathy and caring ways. So, I thank you.
