Tribute To Doctor Jean Peterson

I had quit the counseling program; I was no longer excited.
One year of graduate school was enough; I was done.
Then you telephoned me to see what had gone wrong.
I could not trust you; you were a voice on a phone.

You offered to drive an hour to where I was and take me to lunch.
I told you it would be a waste of time; you did not back down.
We met, and I was hard and inflexible at first.
But you wore me down and promised to help if I would return.

Thanks to your empathy and love, and your caring ways.
I have been a school counselor for twenty-six years.
A position that has brought me joy, love, and energy.
Thanks to your empathy and caring ways. So, I thank you.

I hope this Dr is aware of the tribute. There should be more people like her. And more like you, that say thank you for the opportunity she gave you 26 years ago bringing happiness to you and the children you care for...

That's one fine teacher, mentor, person, Caren. I can see why you wrote this exceptionally nice tribute to her. She made a big difference in your life.

It is one of several tributes I have written in her honor.
