Tribute

I am so tired, but cannot sleep
I wake to the sound of running feet
My heart it pounds inside my chest
There is no place to sit, no where to rest

He died while looking at my stare
I held him in my arms and touched his hair
His blood was warm, it was everywhere
He fought to protect me, full of love and care
His life for mine, it just is not fair

My best friend and hero died in my arms
By an enemy who meant to do me harm
He came to my side to help his own
And on that day, his honor shown

I honor his life, I honor his gift
His name and cause I do lift
His life just a memory fading away
But his grace game me another day

Your touching tribute transports your reader to this intimate time of life, death and love. A true honor to read. I’m thankful -

What a wonderful friend you had. Your poem is terrific. The line. "His life, just a memory away" says it all... Beautiful. Thank you, Panagiota
