Trepidation Into Nature

The ant is one who works all day
and barely sleeps at night
Seldom is he, if ever
fearful of an unjust or a losing fight

He lives to serve a queen
and she he seldom sees
but he is hers in mind and soul
to do with as she please

She dictates and rules to all her breed
with a simple yes or no
for she is the queen and her word is law
this we all know to be so.

But the queen behind her mask she sneers
at the knave of an ant and all his peers
who work all day and through the night
and fight the battle of a losing fight
and believe that because of her
what they do is right
Yes, we are all like ants one and all
constantly ignorant of our own minds' call.

Since you wrote this in 1969, you and I are of the same generation, and these words still hold meaning today. I wonder if they will still be relevant a generation from now.

Wow! So apt for today. Since you wrote this in 1969, seems things never change for the better. Brilliant piece.

Can't argue that thought! And worst of all the ant can't break away from the group. Hope we can. Congrats and welcome to soup.

The Queen is metaphorically ex- President Nixon and the ant is your average Soldier....this was written in 1969....i was 21 at the time, the mood was such. I do feel it applies to current events today, especially the Iraqi debacle.

I enjoyed this, so thank you, Paul. I served a queen, too, once - a long time ago. She was a bee, though. However, did she sneer as she peered. Not sure! :)
