Notes About The Poem

Trapped

Trapped

An imprisoned animal walks the bars back and forth at the zoo.
I have seen my guy do the same thing in the garage.
You might think, perhaps I should be concerned?
Why would I consider them similar at all?
I will explain, a feeling…

When we are in a place or time that has limits,
we long to break them, to prove our worth,
if not to others, simply to ourselves.

A man is measured today… by his collections,
the “stuff” that he obtains, that actually possess him.
All things that will be worthless, once eyes are closed…
And… I tell you now, it will happen.

Being happy, has much as can be, given any circumstance,
is a way to live. Any action(s) less than complete…
“glorification” of the day falls so short.
Not worth measuring at all.

The cage…
it is precise from wall to wall.
Every step, until the fall.

Ann, I like the cage you described here in your poem 'Trapped'. My dog and I spent some time in the garage, listening to music and tinkering on cars. -Richard

Funny how a cage, can also be a safe place, a place while others try to leap out of, may be exactly what some would love to have... Hugs. Ann

Hmm, continuation of the theme about the value of things. That's interesting. Example: a poor man saves up for the cheapest car for a long time, finally buys it and feels happy. If a rich man is forced to drive the same car, he will feel miserable. The same thing, opposite feelings. Alas, we all live in the cage of our bodies, minds, habits etc. Meanwhile, someone feels free and someone doesn't. How come?)
