Train Songs

Nobody writes train songs anymore No one sings about them like they did before Sometimes I get lonely when I hear that engine roar Nobody writes train songs any more Those old train songs always take me back Stonewall sang about the smoke along the track Folsom prison from the man in black Those old train songs always take me back Steel rails had a rhythm all their own I loved to hear that lonesome whistle moan Ride to where the wind had never blown Steel rails had a rhythm all their own Now and then I hear that freight train call my name If I went, I’d only have myself to blame There’s a wild streak I’ve never learned to tame Now and then I hear that freight train call my name Have you ever dreamed of hopping on a train On the roof you can hear the pounding of the rain It has a soothing sound that takes away your pain Have you ever dreamed of hopping on a train Nobody writes train songs anymore No one sings about them like they did before Sometimes I get lonely when I hear that engine roar Nobody writes train songs anymore.

Nothing could be more lonely, or haunting a sound, than that of a train whistle in the dark of night...we have one that echos through the valley most every night, can be heard for miles and miles....and yes, it stirs up a poetic feeling in my mind. Love this poem.

Fabulous Vince - I also hold a love of trains and will be venturing through the Rockies on Sunday on one - there is nothing like the sound of a train whistle at night far far away..

Nothing like the lonesome sound of a train whistle - I love them and will have the chance soon to ride a train for two days - great time for inspiration! Wonderfully written Vince!

Old Stonewall Jackson used to be one of my favorites. I like the old country and the old rock and roll too. Although I don't think it will ever grow old, Ron

really loved this poem of course i love trains i love the sound they make. when i was about 3 or 4 years old my grandma used to lift me up to the window so i could see the train go by, i use to walk the rails, remember doing that? Jimmy Rogers, the one back in the 30's used to sing about trains, and yes stonewall jackson loved him and jonny cash, thank you again, it is nice to see a poet doing poems like i do from the good ole days.

You are indeed a song writer. Could very well be the last train song ever written. Something a bit lonely and introspective here. Very nicely done - I loved it. Love, Shar
