Trail of Tears

by Laura

Fickle, all these feelings I seem to be reeling from
Under the nail of my thumb, a worn out drum is spun
Beating, like a bleeding heart so recklessly made
They say it slowly strayed from the sound it played

I made a call, an ill-fated change of course
Remorse floods empty pockets that backed the wrong horse
Of course, I see clearly now the highway trail of tears
I met the end, the last express to all of my fears

Strangely, I've found a peace that the fire disavowed
Lord, fix these broken wings and i'll live in the clouds
I'll hear those desparate prayers that pour from the masses
Amass the brass that will fill the holes from all those useless classes
