Notes About The Poem

Written for this week's poetry challenge about trees.

Tragedy of a Tree

I once was a tree near Hadrian's wall
That for a hundred years stood proud and tall
Then one day I was brutally cut down
Leaving broken hearts scattered all around.

My sycamore was a much treasured tree
For passers by ‘twas a precious must see
The felling was to all a dreadful shock
To the world it is a terrible loss.

As it's said, where there is life there is hope
Fortunately there is now new regrowth
One day my tree will stand there proud and tall
To honour the tree that came to a fall.

Nice poem ,Beryl. My dad planted sycamores in my backyard growing up, and they grew quite large. I loved them. There was one that was great for climbing, which allowed me to see the entire neighborhood from over 20 feet high if I remember. Thanks for reminding me!

Thank you David, I’m pleased this poem reminded of the days when you climbed that sycamore tree… Beryl

I agree...tragedy turns into growth. One of our trees didn't weather last winter's storms....we planted a new one in its place and it's already three feet tall...amazing.

Thank you Sara, it was an awful thing to do, cutting down an old beautiful tree. The new tree will be just as delightful no doubt when it reaches maturity, as will yours too… Beryl 🕊️

Feelings and energy cause allows the pendulum to oscillate. The recurrence appeals to me, Beryl.

Cutting down any tree is not good, but it's really wonderful to see how trees can regrow over time😊

I loved London and rarely ventured elsewhere. I love willows, and I'm glad it grew again. I gave you a like, ❤️

I love how the two lines at the start of your poem and the two lines at the end of your poem are closely alike. How there's something sad happens to this wonderful tree, but how hope does not disappear, as there is new growth, new potential and future for this tree by this rebirth... giving your poem a circle if life feel to it. Lovely ☺️ 🌳🍃

The pendulum swings with life and emotions. I like the cyclical nature of this, Beryl.
