Tracks
hand in hand we walk together
shuffling leaves the air still smoky
warm with early fall
and endless Saturday time
should we ride at the pony farm
Mr. Michaels likes us, he'll let us have them all day
over dusty hills and into the fields
we pretend we're cowgirls, or trappers, or soldiers
or should we get the comics from your brothers
room
hide out in your attic
and be lazy
no lets
listen to John Lennon all afternoon
in your room and
stop the record
so we can hear him
groan
later we can walk
to town
and get candy
watch the trains
I still have the penny
we put on the tracks
