Tonight I Am Alone With My Tears
Tonight I am alone with my tears
as I recall the memory of your
handsome face staring at me
with a sadness which broke
my heart when you told me
our love was over.
Tonight I am alone with my tears
when you said there is someone else
and her name appears next to yours
on the joint checking account
and who is clinging onto your
arm as I once did.
Tonight I am alone with my tears
feeling sorry for myself because
you are not here to share the warmth
we once shared and the laughter over
silly little things which only a couple
in love would understand together.
Tonight I am alone with my tears
feeling anguish over your cruelty
and loathing the woman who stole
your heart and broke mine as if
a porcelain plate dropped into many
pieces and impossible to repair.
Tonight I am alone with my tears
trying to pick myself up feeling as
if a rag doll tossed aside and
forlorn because no one is here
to hug me and whisper sweet
words of love into my ear.
Tonight I am alone with my tears
as sorrow becomes my partner in
a grief so deep that the hole I have
dug reaches the bowels of earth
in which there is no escape and
my screams are no longer heard.
