Tonic

Someone is waiting, I hope not in vain
for you to greet them with words of acclaim.

They needn't be fancy or charming or grand,
just simple, honest, and easy to understand.

Identify something about them that radiates truth,
--dress, smile, posture, maybe their youth.

Cost to you, as you know, is not one thing,
and think of the joy to a life you will bring.

Eschew that which often makes us sardonic,
and know kindness to others is life's potent tonic.

Kindness has it's own language! It blesses both, one who gives, one who takes and the celestial bliss is immense! It's a beautiful one Paul. It feeds my soul!

Your comment could not be more on the mark. Kindness DOES have its own language, even though I hadn't thought of it that way. Thank you, Silpika, for a wonderfully insightful comment. Hugs, Paul

Lindsay, My lateness in responding has nothing to do with the sincerity of my appreciation for your comment. Please forgive me. Hugs xxx. Paul

Thank you, Daniel. An "excellent" rating from you is to be treasured, which I do. There are no soaring phrases in the poem, but perhaps there's an element of soaring truth (I suppose truth can soar). With every good wish, Paul
