Today Tomorrow Yesterday

It is gone and won’t come back- yesterday
It is here now but won’t stay- today
It may come as just another day-tomorrow

We strive to outlast the now
The familiar exist only in today and yesterday
The future calls and is but a mystery
Until it becomes today

We aim to extend living
And move past now
We plan
We hope
We expect there will be another day

When today becomes yesterday
The dawn hails a new beginning
Of promises or despair
The outcome is never clear
Until we can look back and stare
At the day before that’s no longer there

Today can linger
The hours may drag
The expectations for tomorrow
Greater than the pleasures of now

Promises galore exist in tomorrow
It is regular and never late
It cannot happen without yesterday
And is guided by today
