Today In Church
Today, I stood where Jacob slept
And wondered, how could he
In every song the angels leapt
Up and down around me
I raised my hands to be my wings
And take my final flight
And join the holy choir that sings
Around the throne of light
Today my life in picture came
I saw my sins and need
I met the one who bore my shame
And knelt to make him lead
His brow was scarred his hands were torn
The mark was in his side
My death, for me, my friend has borne
I wouldn't be crucified
No one I saw who hurt me still
All men were forgiven
Nothing to claim or tempt my will
Hope is only heaven
Take your honors, take all your wealth
I seek a city far
Beyond all treasures, and have dwelt
In that dream of his star
For I believe the eastern gate
Shall open bright as day
And the kingdom for which I wait
Shall take all breath away
And so in church I today I yield
All to choice to him belong
Who only know the joy I feel
To sing the victor's song
