To Understand Misanthropes

Passing bloody tattered fields,
Someone lost their faith.
Gases flood the battlefield,
As do tidal graves.

People didn't die that day;
They flailed around and drowned.
Pupils: faded slowly and
Gargling: the sound.

If you had seen
What he had seen--
Had seen the terror
And despair,

If you had seen
Those eyes he'd seen;
Hand grasping him
For air...

Why can't this man
Bear itself?
If you saw how man
Could tear itself,
Then you would know why.

Darkly insightful and hauntingly familiar, I really enjoyed the depth here. Thank you for sharing your work and taking the time to write this
